Water Softeners and Filtration in Grapevine, TX
Grapevine treats some of its own water. Its supply comes from the city plant, which draws from Lake Grapevine, and from the Trinity River Authority, and the two supplies test a little differently.

Grapevine's 2024 water quality report prints separate columns for its own plant and for the authority's water, so you can see both.
Grapevine plant
6.8grains per gallon (approx.)
117 ppm hardness, Lake Grapevine, 2024
Trinity River Authority
7.9grains per gallon (approx.)
135 ppm hardness, Lake Arlington, 2024
Two Supplies
The city plant draws from Lake Grapevine. The second supply comes through the Trinity River Authority's Tarrant County Water Supply Project, which pumps raw water from Lake Arlington to a treatment plant on the Fort Worth and Euless line and also serves Bedford, Colleyville, Euless and North Richland Hills.
Moderately Hard to Hard
At 117 ppm, Grapevine's own water sits just under the U.S. Geological Survey's hard band, which starts at 121. The authority's 135 ppm falls inside it, and at about 7.9 grains it also clears the 7 grain mark where the Water Quality Association starts calling water hard. Your own tap could test closer to either number.
Chloramines and Manganese
Grapevine disinfects with chloramines, which averaged 2.55 ppm in 2024, ranging from 0.5 to 4.0. Manganese, the metal behind black or brown staining, was not detected in the city plant's water and measured 0.005 ppm in the authority's, a tenth of the EPA's 0.05 ppm secondary guideline. Turbidity stayed low in both, with highest single readings of 0.20 and 0.27 NTU.
The Only Way to Know Your Number
Because two supplies feed the city, a report number is a rough guide at best for a single house. Our free in-home test reads hardness, chlorine, iron and sediment from your own faucet, and the recommendation comes from that, with no pressure to buy.

What We Install in Grapevine
What your home needs comes out of the test, but these are the systems we install here.
Water Softeners
Removes the hardness minerals from either supply, so scale stops building in the water heater and dishwasher and on fixtures.
Whole-Home Filtration
Filters iron and sediment out at the main line, ahead of every faucet and shower.
Drinking Water Systems
An under-sink reverse osmosis system for the water you drink and cook with.
Grapevine Water Questions
Where does Grapevine get its water?
From two places: the city's own treatment plant, which draws from Lake Grapevine, and the Trinity River Authority, which treats water from Lake Arlington.
Do I need a water softener in Grapevine?
Grapevine's 2024 report lists 117 ppm of hardness for its plant and 135 ppm for authority water, about 6.8 and 7.9 grains per gallon. USGS calls hardness a nuisance rather than a health concern, so the free test is the way to see if a softener makes sense for your home.
Is there manganese in Grapevine water?
Very little. Grapevine's 2024 report shows none detected in its own plant's water and 0.005 ppm in authority water. The EPA's secondary guideline for manganese, tied to black staining, is 0.05 ppm.
Why are there two hardness numbers in Grapevine's report?
Because the city uses two supplies. The report lists its own plant's Lake Grapevine water and the Trinity River Authority's water in separate columns.
