What's in Keller Water

Keller's 2025 Drinking Water Quality Report, covering January through December 2025, says the city purchases its water from the City of Fort Worth.

  • Keller (Fort Worth water)

    6 to 9grains per gallon

108 to 150 ppm, Fort Worth sampling in Keller's 2025 report

  • Disinfectant: chloramines

    2.62ppm average

    Range 1.00 to 3.5 ppm, 2025

Where Keller's Water Comes From

Keller's report lists Fort Worth's seven surface water sources, from Lake Worth and Eagle Mountain Lake to Richland Chambers and Cedar Creek reservoirs. Four of the lakes belong to the Tarrant Regional Water District, which sells Fort Worth its raw water. Our Fort Worth page covers that supply in more detail.

How Hard Keller Water Is

The report's secondary constituents table, which uses Fort Worth's sampling, lists total hardness of 108 to 150 ppm as calcium carbonate, printed as 6 to 9 grains per gallon. Calcium alone runs 37.6 to 48.1 ppm. The top of that range sits in what the Water Quality Association calls hard water, 7 to 10.5 grains.

The same table puts total dissolved solids at 182 to 244 ppm and pH at 7.8 to 8.5.

Chloramines in Keller Water

Keller samples its own distribution system for disinfectant. In 2025 chloramines averaged 2.62 ppm, with readings from 1.00 to 3.5 ppm, under the maximum residual disinfectant level of 4 ppm. Chloramine is chlorine combined with ammonia, and the EPA says it provides longer-lasting disinfection as water moves through pipes to homes.

The Only Way to Know Your Number

The hardness range is Fort Worth's, measured at its sampling points, not at your faucet. Our in-home test checks your own tap for hardness, chlorine, iron and sediment, then we recommend a system built on those results, with no pressure to buy. It is free for Keller homes.

Common questions

Keller Water Questions

Where does Keller get its water?

From the City of Fort Worth, which treats lake and river water and sells it to Keller. Keller's 2025 report names the sources, including Lake Worth, Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Benbrook.

Do I need a water softener in Keller?

Keller's 2025 report puts hardness at 6 to 9 grains per gallon. Hardness is not a health concern, the U.S. Geological Survey says, but it can form scale when water is heated. Whether a softener is worth it for your home is what the free in-home test answers.

What disinfectant is in Keller tap water?

Keller's water is disinfected with chloramines, a mix of chlorine and ammonia. Keller's 2025 sampling averaged 2.62 ppm, with readings from 1.00 to 3.5 ppm.

Why are the hardness numbers in Keller's report from Fort Worth?

Because Fort Worth treats the water Keller buys. The report's secondary constituents table is labeled as City of Fort Worth sampling results, while Keller samples its own system for disinfectant.
